Why you need a Love based Community
I was blindsided.
Was this really the BEST way?
All the research said that it was, but I couldn’t believe it. Was it really that simple?
Apparently the #1 way to support a new habit or goal in your life or business was to join a Community.
Really?
Yes, Really, its all about Community.
The #1 approach I’ve researched to support people dealing with any challenge from depression, low sales in your business, heart break, or loosing weight is to join an aligned and supportive community.
What really shocked me was the following. Many psychologists working with patients suffering from depression, drug addiction or other serious challenges, recommend joining a church. They make this recommendation even for people who are not religious or spiritual at all.
What? Really? Yes, really. How is it that so many science based health care providers are recommending religious institutions as a possible support to something they view as a problem of the mind?
I think this really says something about the power of a community.
A community, for the purpose of this blog post, is a place where people show up regularly, consistently, in a supportive way that allows people the space and safety to grow. This obviously doesn’t have to be a church, but the benefit of most churches is that they meet every single Sunday, and usually once or twice during the week. They are nothing if not consistent!
The power of community can also work against you. Lets say you are part of a group of people that like to get together and complain all the time. Maybe these people are your friends or co-workers? The power of that community is the same.
They are consistent. They show up regularly and they have a strong influence.
What communities are you consciously aligning yourself with right now in your life?
From personal experience, I have discovered my biggest shifts, changes and transformations within the arms of a loving, supportive and aligned community.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
What kinds of shifts am I talking about? Let me give you some examples to demonstrate the true power of an aligned community.
I joined a Church.
Crazy right? But I did. And I cleared up my negative stories I had held about the word “God” and even my negative beliefs about religion. Since then I have been free to connect with God anywhere and with anyone, free of judgment. I can find God on the street, in a Buddhist meditation on compassion, when I follow a Hindu guru’s teachings, and in a Christian church singing Jesus songs. I could never step foot in a Church without having a physical reaction! But now, just yesterday in fact, I prayed in a Catholic church! Wil from 8 years ago would think I’m crazy!
I joined a Personal Development Community.
I took many courses with a particular personal development company in Toronto. But it wasn’t until I took an intensive 7 month program where I created deep bonds and friendships that I shifted a core belief that had been plaguing me my whole life. I shifted the belief that the world would be a better place if I wasn’t here. With the support of close friends inside this very intense community I was able to step out of that belief. That story I had running was also one of the biggest pillars that kept my old pattern of depression in place. Ever since then I’ve had a much more stable and joyous life.
I joined Spiritual Community.
When I started down my healing path to learn the work I now do with clients, I joined a Spiritual Community that had a huge impact on my whole life. The biggest belief that I released was the need to save others and the world. I used to believe that it was my job, my duty, to save other people. It hung so heavy on my soul that I sometimes it felt like I could barely breathe. When I cleared that belief my life and business expanded and continue to expand every day. I now create my business, income and impact in the world from joy, questions and possibilities instead of obligations, judgements, should’s and have-to’s.
What could you shift if you were part of a loving, aligned and powerful community?
A community filled with love.
A community that stands (or sits!) powerfully in a clear and loving energy.
A community where you can be yourself.
A community that lives to support everyone’s growth.
When I’m looking to join a community my guiding questions are …
What does this community Care about? And …
Will this community Care if I join, or will I be just another face in the crowd?
And finally …
Is this a community that I personally Care about, or that I could Care deeply about if I joined?
I encourage you to find your community today!
